Parents, Welcome back to Liberty for the 2015-16 school year. It has been so much fun in the first couple rotations of lessons with your children. They have shared so many cool stories of how they were active this summer!!! I have had fun sharing with them some of the adventures our family has had this summer. If interested, here is a link of the fun we had this summer as a family in Worthington. Worthington Fun My wife, Tracey, and I also had an incredible trip abroad that we went on with some friends after 'winning' a trip at a silent auction for Cystic Fibrosis (my niece has CF and we attend a fundraiser annually in Wilmington, DE). While we saw some incredible things and had so much fun travelling, I did have an unfortunate bike accident in Scotland - I have been reminding the students of the importance of helmets!!! I am excited to get back on my bike next week - I have some days of catching up to do with students (several are riding daily to school!!). See pics from: SCOTLAND ICELAND I also have shared with the students about an 'assembly' we had as a staff on the day before school officially started. Our 'principal' of the district, Dr. Bowers shared with us the expectations of staff members, and I have posted them in the gym. The expectations can be found here, and I believe they will help make the relationship between staff, students, and families a strong one for our children! Please don't hesitate to contact me regarding any of the expectations set forth by Dr. Bowers. We are currently assessing our 'engines' (our heart and lung power) with the PACER assessment. We use the PACER too find our cardiovascular endurance level and to see if it has improved over the summer (and to see trends over time) - I'll be sharing how we did as a school next week. During last school year, over 90% of our students improved their cardiovascular endurance which is amazing! We have also talked about three habits that can help quickly improve our overall health which we call our S.E.E. principle. These are three habits that can help us try our best in everything we do daily. Sleep the right amount every night. We talked about the need for a consistent bed time, and the need to 'power off' before going to bed. SLEEP Eat POWER FOODS. We talked about the possibility of growing power foods in the backyard. I heard of so many gardens which is SO COOL to hear! We have had fun this summer with our peppers, tomatoes, and squash. EAT Exercise (play HARD) at least 60 minutes a day. EXERCISE EnJOY your Labor Day weekend! As always, don't hesitate to contact me if you have any questions or concerns. I am here to serve your child and your family! All the best on a GREAT year!
