Liberty Families,
I hope your Spring is off to a good start. I want to share with you some COOL things going on in the gym with Liberty Wellness 4 Life. Student Teacher We have an OSU Student Teacher visiting with us until April 22. His name is Zack Roush and he is off to an amazing start. From Mr. Roush: "I’m doing my student teaching with Mr. Smith. I am a student at The Ohio State University, and will be graduating this semester. I enjoy sports and recreation and hope to inspire students to get active and enjoy being physically active as much as I do! I’m so excited to be teaching at Worthington Liberty Elementary. So far, I’ve had an awesome time helping with the archery unit! My goal is to encourage students to develop a lifelong love and appreciation for physical activity. So have fun and be active!" Mr. Roush will be leading a 4 lesson unit for our Five Star Track and Field (running, jumping, throwing, IMPROVING with PERSONAL BESTS, and competing with Fair Play). The Five Star Track and Field (Olympic Edition!) Day will be Friday, May 6 (we can use your help - please email [email protected] if interested helping with our fun, active, day!). More info to come soon! Jump/Hoops for Heart The Liberty Elementary community raised $3,594!! We crushed our school goal of $1500:) Nakai Hawkins (3rd grade) and Austin Marsh (1st grade) are our top fundraisers - over $300 each. Wow! Thanks you all for supporting the American Heart Association. Prizes were ordered at the beginning of March - the AHA shares prizes take 3-5 weeks - I know the students are eager to receive their prizes. And speaking of jump roping - it is an AMAZING inexpensive exercise for ALL ages. The students LOVED challenging Mr. Marsh and I in class:) Archery The students (Grades 3-6) did amazing with the archery unit! ALL students improved in their technique and accuracy. Our fifth graders (as part of their State of Ohio Assessment) became 'professional coaches' by assessing their classmates, and even creating a practice program for each other in how to improve. 6th grader, Shea Versele, was our top archer in our final day 'Bull's-eye Challenge' - Shea scored an amazing 48/50 points - and becomes our FIRST EVER instagram post:) I am new to Instagram and see it as a GREAT way to 'open the walls of the gym' to all of you. Please join us (I have setting on private, so please make a request on Instagram). Shea beat both Mr. Smith (45) and Mr. Roush (44) with his amazing accuracy:) We will have a new session of running club beginning soon. More info soon! That's it for now. Stay active! Mr. Smith
